If you are interested in getting involved in Las Cruces dance, we would love to audition you! All experience levels, body types, backgrounds, and genders, ages 15 to 104 are welcome at our Las Cruces dance auditions.
August 6th, 7:30pm-8:30pm
at HD2 Hip Hop Studio
3000 Harrelson St. Unit 4N, Las Cruces, NM
Come to the audition in clothing that is conducive to moving. We are quite casual for our rehearsals and attire may range from yoga pants and a tank top to leotards with tights or shorts. Come in whatever athletic wear you feel most comfortable in. With regards to footwear, you may wear dance footwear such as jazz shoes, ballet slippers (pointe shoes are not applicable), half-soles, socks, or you may dance barefoot if you feel comfortable.
What to Expect
The audition will be structured in the following manner: 30 minutes of barre in the contemporary fashion, modern across the floor and center combos, followed by improvisation. To wrap up the audition we will teach and perform choreography.
What We Are Looking For
First and foremost, we are looking for dancers who are willing to take on the time commitments of rehearsals for the 2020-2021 season (which will take place Thursdays from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, with some additional rehearsals required for the month of the show. There are a few community events and fundraisers to attend as well). If this isn’t a commitment you feel comfortable making, but are interested in still performing with us, we welcome you to perform as a guest artist for one of our performances throughout the year.
Aside from the ability to consistently show up and participate in rehearsals, we are looking for people who love dance, performance, and/or collaboratively create theatrical productions. Someone who is dedicated to the idea of self-improvement, and who has the courage to put themselves out in front of an audience and perform.
Worried You Don’t Have Enough Dance Experience?
We are a very welcoming group of dancers, all of whom at one point or another had to start with the basics. Dancers with very little experience are welcome to join us as understudies, which can be very useful in accelerating your improvement in dance both technically and from a performance quality standpoint. We do recommend some very basic familiarity with ballet, jazz, and/or modern dance (at least six months) as a starting point. If you have never danced before, but want to start, please contact us and we can put you in touch with class resources (even for adults!) and welcome you as an understudy once you get some basics down. Danced in the past and are just feeling a little rusty? Come and try out. You might be surprised by how much your mind and body remembers.
We promise performance opportunities for dancers no matter how close to the beginning of their dance journey. Beginners should be aware, however, that more technical pieces are regularly choreographed and set on members, and it will be left to the choreographer’s discretion whether a dancer has the skill and technique to be included in the performance of their piece. Dancers who are still developing are still welcome (and encouraged) to understudy these pieces.
If the current audition date doesn’t work for you, but you would still like to audition, please don’t hesitate to email us, or let us know in the comments of your registration, and we can work together to set up another time. Questions are also welcome!
Register online and skip the paperwork on audition day! If you can't make the date of the audition but would still like to try out, please fill out an application and let us know that you can't make it on March 8th. We will work with you to find a day that will work. We look forward to dancing with you!
